Junior Achievement of WNY, Inc.
2005-2006 Annual Report
Our Mission:
To ensure that every child in America has a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise system.
Our Purpose:
To educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, understand business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives.
Programs
Our programs are funded by local businesses, foundations and individuals, and are designed to be taught in the classroom by business, parent, and community volunteers. Volunteers make economic concepts relevant, fuel the entrepreneurial spirit, and challenge the students to excel. JA’s unique delivery system provides the training, materials, and support necessary to ensure a positive experience.
Junior Achievement programs are available to students in grades K-12 with curriculum being offered both during the regular school day and after school. It is never too early to inspire a student and growing up with JA does just that!
"I have a tremendous amount of respect and value for the purpose and effectiveness of Junior Achievement. Your ability to link with the businsess community and meet the New York State standards through your curriculum is evidence of Junior Achievement’s flexibility in meeting the needs of our community."
- West Seneca School District Coordinator
"The JA Economics program and materials are excellent and they are very well aligned with the New York State Economics mandate and the Learning Standards. I have to admit, though, that most of all, I love running the student companies with my classes. The kids are very enthusiastic about making a profit, so it’s a lot of fun."
-Byron Bergen Teacher
Our Volunteers
Our dedicated volunteers are shaping the lives of area students everyday! These indivudals come from all walks of life. They are parents, businessmen and women, CEO’s, caretakers, retirees and grandparents. The diversity of our volunteers is broad, and their real life experiences are extremely valuable. We would not have the JA success stories that we have if it weren’t for these outstanding individuals. During the past year, over 15,000 students in our community participated in JA programs, thanks to over 500 volunteers. These volunteers value the youth of our region and are making a pledge to educate and inspire tomorrow’s leaders. They are living proof that education can take you far. Their commitment to JA and the students are solid, their impact, long lasting.
"Being a JA volunteer is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I leave the classroom confident the time investment had a positive impact on the children. Honestly, my first hour of JA classroom time was more personally satisfying than twenty years working for a large corporation."
- 2nd Grade Volunteer at Sheridan Hill
Thank you’s from JA students to our
volunteers:
"I learned a lot of important advice from you that can help me in the future. You taught me things that I would of never thought of. I just wanted to say thank you."
"We really appreciate how you taught us about budgeting our money, school and many other things. Now we know how important school is and why we have to come."
