JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT
VOLUNTEER CONDUCT STANDARDS

Junior Achievement addresses classroom conduct in a pro-active manner. All volunteers are provided with a copy of JA's Volunteer Conduct Standards. Each volunteer is afforded the opportunity to read and understand the practices JA expects each classroom volunteer to employ while interacting with students. Junior Achievement receives a signed copy of the Conduct Standards.

Additionally, each volunteer is apprised of the proper course of action to take if there are questions or concerns regarding the safety and well-being of a student. Junior Achievement expects the highest standards displayed and modeled by our volunteers, we also consider the volunteer another level of protection for the students, to communicate with the school on issues of concern.

VOLUNTEER CONDUCT STANDARDS

These standards are designed to help volunteers understand the practices we expect them to employ in the classroom.  These standards shall be conveyed verbally and in writing by Junior Achievement staff to volunteers training for the first time.

Volunteers should not:

Have any inappropriate contact inside or outside the classroom with any student met through their Junior Achievement class, including those students 18 years of age or older.

Be in contact with any student inside or outside the classroom unless that student’s teacher, another school-sanctioned adult, or the student’s parent or guardian is present and aware of the situation.

Be in contact with any student inside or outside the classroom without prior knowledge and consent of the Junior Achievement staff.

Exceptions would include routine business activity or bona fide job interviews for students 15 years of age or older, conducted at a regular place of business and during regular business hours.

Some examples of inappropriate conduct include:

Violations of state law regarding child abuse, providing alcohol to minors, or having alcohol on a school campus, etc.

Dress that violates school dress codes, or is inconsistent with normal business attire.

Use of profanity or inappropriate language in the classroom.

Physical contact which is inappropriate to a teacher-pupil professional relationship considering the age and sex of the student.

These are examples only and are not intended to be a comprehensive list. There could be other actions not listed herein, which could result in suspension or dismissal of a volunteer. If any situations arise which could cause questions, the volunteer should consult with JA staff.

Allegations of violation of these standards will result in immediate suspension as a Junior Achievement volunteer. If an investigation by the proper authorities determines a violation occurred, it will result in immediate and permanent dismissal as a Junior Achievement volunteer.
